Our European Climate Pact Ambassador

18-12-2023

Assoc. Prof. Dorota Anna Krawczyk, DSc, PhD, Eng, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation of Bialystok University of Technology, has been appointed by the European Commission as a European Climate Pact Ambassador in Poland. This appointment is a confirmation of Prof. Krawczyk’s personal commitment to pro-environmental activities, as well as a recognition of her scientific achievements in the field of green buildings.

The European Climate Pact is an EU initiative, part of the European Green Deal, which aims at building green Europe. The goal of the Climate Pact is to disseminate scientifically sound climate information, to encourage climate commitments and to support the governance of the Pact and the co-design of EU climate policy.

The activities of the European Climate Pact – led by the Ambassadors – focus on key areas of benefit to citizens and the environment, including green spaces, green mobility, energy-efficient buildings and green skills.

Assoc. Prof. Dorota Anna Krawczyk, DSc, PhD, Eng, has been working for years on issues related to the possibilities of reducing energy consumption in residential and public buildings. Since 2023, she has been coordinating the project ‘Increasing energy efficiency of residential and educational buildings under energy security threats’ under the competition ISKRA – building inter-university research teams, within ‘Politechniczna Sieć Via Carpatia im. Prezydenta RP Lecha Kaczyńskiego’. She coordinated 4 international projects focused on innovative solutions for low-energy and environmentally friendly construction. She is involved in the implementation of the university’s sustainable development strategy called ‘My Green University’.

– Research and the implementation of solutions to reduce energy consumption in buildings and the use of renewable heat sources are important links in the chain of actions taken on the road to decarbonisation and achieving climate neutrality in Europe. My work at the university enables me to combine research in the field of sustainable development of buildings, to develop new solutions and methods during international projects, and to widely promote modern solutions that we can currently use during classes with students, conferences and meetings of representatives of the academic environment and socio-economic environment from various European countries that I participate in. As a European Climate Pact Ambassador, I will make every effort to share my knowledge and widely disseminate modern solutions that are constantly emerging. This is because I believe that social involvement in climate and environmental activities is necessary, – says Assoc. Prof. Dorota Anna Krawczyk, DSc, PhD, Eng.

The Ambassadors of the European Climate Pact are a group of people committed to pro-climate solutions and environmental protection. This group already has more than 500 members, including 25 from Poland. Polish ambassadors of the European Climate Pact include Rafał Trzaskowski, President of Warsaw; Hanna Zdanowska, President of Łódź; Olgierd Geblewicz, marshal of the Zachodniopomorskie Voivodship; Agnieszka Oleksyn-Wajda, director of the Institute for Sustainable Development and Environment at Łazarski University.
